I am looking for a trustworthy team player with a strong work ethic to fill a pivotal role, based mainly in the Westminster parliamentary office. Strong organisation and communication skills are essential as is a willingness to work both independently and collaboratively with the existing small, friendly and dedicated team.
Job title: Parliamentary Assistant
Location: London
Salary: In line with IPSA pay scales, commensurate with experience
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate parliamentary office, processing physical post, voicemails and MP inbox, triaging accordingly to the team
- Organise constituents’ visits to the parliamentary estate for tours, school visits and PMQ tickets
- Coordinate team communications internally, collating team meeting agenda and minutes
- Progress constituent correspondence, taking forward routine casework
- Produce communications i.e. draft press releases, website or social media content
- Support the MP by taking forward parliamentary campaigns or project work
- Parliamentary diary management
- Collaborate with the team on routine administrative tasks and project work as required
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience in an MP’s parliamentary or constituency office (6 months minimum)
- Excellent organisational, inter-personal and administrative skills
- Attention to detail, focussed and keen to produce a high quality of work
- Strong communication skills, particularly written and IT competency (familiarity with social media and/or caseworker.mp is advantageous)
- Ability to proactively manage own workload and prioritise tasks independently since rest of the team are mostly constituency based
- Ability to collaborate and communicate clearly to work as part of small, hands-on team across split locations (Westminster/constituency office)
- A methodical approach to record keeping
- Familiarity with Westminster politics/current affairs and/or the key issues in the constituency is advantageous
- Sympathy with the aims and values of the Conservative Party
