Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has visited Buxted Primary school to speak to the Year 6 class about her role as Member of Parliament for Wealden, and to discuss how laws are made in Westminster.
The class has been studying the topic “Who Rules?”, which covers subjects such as the role of the monarchy, the Magna Carta, democratic processes in the UK, and the role and responsibilities of Parliament and Government. The pupils have quizzed Nusrat on her duties as Member of Parliament for Wealden, responsibilities as Minister of State at the Department for Business and Trade, her journey to Westminster.
In preparation for the elections to the student council, the pupils were also keen to discuss how to deliver a speech and make their voices heard in front of a large audience.
Nusrat Ghani said: “It is always a pleasure to visit Wealden schools to engage with our young residents and Buxted primary school was no exception. They were very polite, eager to learn and curious to find out the ins and outs of the processes in the House of Commons Chamber. I would like to thank Year 6 teacher Mr Bryce for preparing our young generation so well for the future. It was inspiring to see their passion to make a difference within their own school community and I wish them all the best in the elections for school council.”
