
I am looking for an experienced Parliamentary Assistant/Communications Officer with a majority focus on digital media content and output to join my small, dedicated team, based in Westminster. This is a key role in a hardworking & proactive team, supporting me in delivering for Sussex Weald constituents & growing my profile & reputation locally using digital communications and social media.

Salary: In line with IPSA pay scales and commensurate with skills and experience
Length of Contract: Full or Part time, Permanent (following successful completion of probationary period)
Key responsibilities:
- Content creator for all social media platforms & online presence of the MP, responding to comments and boosting digital engagement
- Produce video content, digital graphics and photos of the MP’s work
- Ensure online presence is meeting the demands of the constituents and the MP and evaluate its impact
- Monitor national media coverage, create press releases and media briefings & report any relevant trends to the Communications Manager/MP
- Provide parliamentary support to MP, booking tours, PMQ tickets, meeting rooms and other parliamentary duties
- Provide administrative support to the team, including progressing casework or other constituency focussed tasks as required
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous professional experience in a digital communications or social media & content creation role
- Experience creating content for digital channels, websites and socials, (including video and graphics)
- Experience of working in an MP’s office (strongly desirable)
- Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills, experienced with photoshop, canva & others, video editing, with excellent grammar an a keen attention to detail.
- Experience of engaging with key stakeholders and media, dealing with media requests and creating press releases
- The ability to work well independently & as part of a small team; keeping track of and progressing tasks and managing own workload is crucial, as is communicating with the team.
- Knowledge of the Sussex Weald constituency is advantageous but is not required for the role, however an understanding and awareness of Westminster politics is crucial.
