Last weekend Nus met with representatives from South East Water in order to discuss the work being carried out on Diplocks Way. Councillors Bob Standley, Jeannette Towey and Richard Grocock were also present at the meeting.
South East Water have invested £254,000 in the ‘Diplocks Way Project’, which will see the replacement of the pipe that runs along Diplocks Way in Hailsham.
The new pipe will increase the reliability of the water supply in Hailsham and prevent future problems. Work to install the new main, which will be approximately 630 meters in length, will start at the junction of South Road and Diplocks Way and will then continue along Diplocks Way to a point just before the BMW dealership entrance.
The project is scheduled to last for a maximum of nine months, commencing on the 9th October 2017.
Whilst the replacement work is being carried out, a one way system will be in place along Diplocks Way. Parking along Diplocks Way will also need to be restricted; however, access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times. In order to further reduce disruption, the majority of the works will be carried out at night; however some minor works will be required during the day including service transfers.
South East Water are hosting a drop in session for local people to give them a full briefing on the proposed works. The session will be held at Christ Church Hall in Hailsham on the 27th of September between 5pm and 7pm and South East Water representatives will be on hand to answer any questions about the project.
Commenting on the project, Ms Ghani said: “It is high time that the water main along Diplocks Way is replaced. This stretch of pipe has burst a shocking fifty-eight times since 2001, causing significant flooding and disruption for people in Hailsham and the surrounding areas.
Local councillors Bob Standley, Jeannette Towey, Richard Grocock and I will continue to work closely with South East Water and local businesses to ensure that the necessary work is carried out with the minimum possible inconvenience caused to local people. This time of year is a busy period for businesses and residents alike and I have sought assurances from South East Water that they will carry out their work to schedule and will continue to keep local people updated.”
