Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, is pushing the Government on swifter and tougher sanctions for Putin’s oligarchs and their assets in the UK.
Nusrat has been working with parliamentary colleagues on a series of amendments to the emergency Economic Crime & Transparency and Enforcement Bill, which will be debated in the House of Commons on Monday 7 March.
Nusrat Ghani said: “We must stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and support them in their defence against Putin’s unprovoked invasion. We need tougher legislation and I have been working with colleagues on a series of amendments to the Economic Crime & Transparency and Enforcement Bill to ensure that our laws are as tight as they can be to ensure that Putin’s oligarchs are not washing dirty money through assets and companies set up in the UK. We need to match our NATO and EU partners in riding out dirty money from the UK and crack down on the Western enablers, the city firms who have set up the structures for the oligarchs. The Bill is 27 pages long. Our amendments are across several pages, and we hope that the Government will accept our amendments on Monday.”
