Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed the news that Wealden will benefit from the nationwide programme of pothole repairs and road resurfacing projects, made possible by the first tranche of £8.3 billion in reallocated HS2 funding.
As a condition of this funding, and to increase transparency on pothole repairs, local authorities are required to publish a 2-year plan detailing exactly which local roads will benefit. East Sussex County Council has responded to the Government’s request to set out their plans for £3,348,000 to be used to repair and resurface roads in Wealden over the next two years.
In Wealden, the following roads benefit from the resurfacing programme: Downsview Cresent in Uckfield, Bartley Mill Road and Bunny Lane in Frant, and Cherry Gardens Hill in Groombridge. Frant Green Road is earmarked for additional improvements in 2025.
This is part of the £52,432,000 allocated to East Sussex County Council as part of a long-term, 11-year plan to improve local roads. This work will be carried out by East Sussex Highways on behalf of the County Council. Wealden residents can now see where the funds are being allocated and which roads are planned to be maintained via the East Sussex County Council website here.

Nusrat Ghani said: “I know from my regular surgeries and casework that potholes and road standards are one of the biggest concerns locally. I welcome the Government’s investment of over £52m over the next decade to help maintain roads in Wealden and across East Sussex and I’m pleased that Frant, Groombridge and Uckfield will benefit from the first allocation of £3,348,000 for road and pothole repairs over the next two years. These much-needed improvements will ensure smoother journeys as well as increase the safety of all road users, and I will continue to work with local authorities to ensure that Wealden continues to receive funding to improve the safety and durability of our roads.”
