Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, has met with the Chief Executive Officer of Wealden District Council, Trevor Scott, to discuss local issues and ongoing projects and campaigns.
Nusrat and Mr Scott discussed a wide range of issues affecting Sussex Weald and Wealden District, including improving connectivity and mobile signal coverage, improving local transport and infrastructure, expanding local provision for sports and outdoor exercise activities, and boosting resilience of infrastructure including water supply and flood prevention, especially in light of low temperatures during the winter months and increased rainfall in the spring.
Nusrat has also raised her ongoing campaign to deliver improvements to connectivity and accessibility at Wadhurst train station. Having secured multi-million-pound accessibility improvements at Eridge and Crowborough train stations as part of the Access for All scheme, Nusrat is keen to deliver similar improvements for commuters in Wadhurst, and she has written to Ministers at the Department for Transport, as well as to mobile service providers to improve the coverage at the station, which would not only boost its connectivity but also passenger safety.
Following the meeting, Nusrat joined Mr Scott at a Parliamentary event for local councils, hosted by the District Councils’ Network.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I have regular meetings with representatives of both local authorities, East Sussex County Council and Wealden District Council and I was pleased to meet with Trevor for an update on local matters and my ongoing campaigns. I will continue working with Trevor and Wealden District Council on securing more funding to deliver improvements to infrastructure in Sussex Weald to ensure that it continues to thrive as a unique rural constituency.”
