Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, was pleased to join Sussex MPs for a meeting with Police and Crime Commissioner for Sussex Katy Bourne and Chief Constable Jo Shiner to discuss policing in Sussex Weald and across the wider Sussex area.
Discussion points included prevention and tackling of rural crime, which is of particular concern in the north of the constituency; increase in shoplifting incidents; anti-social behaviour; what more can be done to ensure better road safety and speeding awareness including on the A267; and more police presence to ensure that Sussex Weald residents continue to feel safe in their communities.
Nusrat has also congratulated the PCC and Chief Constable on Sussex Police being named the best force in the country for answering 999 calls last year and praised the work of Wealden Neighbourhood Policing Team and Rural Crime Team, both of which Nusrat collaborates closely with.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I am in regular contact with Sussex Police to discuss individual cases of residents and I am hugely grateful to our police officers for their commitment to tackling rural crime, especially in the north of the constituency near the Kent border. I was pleased to meet with PCC Katy Bourne and Chief Constable Jo Shiner to advocate for additional resources for crime prevention in Sussex Weald. I'm pleased that on the whole, incidents of crime in the constituency continue to remain low and I will continue to work with Sussex Police to ensure that local residents continue to feel safe in their communities.”
