Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, is supporting the Sussex Police Crime and Commissioners’ new campaign “Keeping Christmas Kind”.
“Keeping Christmas Kind” is a campaign aimed at recognising that many shop workers have been abused or assaulted at work during the pandemic and supporting our local shop staff throughout the Christmas period.
Every minute of the working day a shopworker is verbally abused, threatened with violence or physically attacked. 76% of shop workers say that incidents of violence, threats and abuse have been worse during COVID-19. “Keeping Christmas Kind” aims to encourage shoppers to show kindness to the shop workers helping to keep us all going this Christmas.
The campaign also recognises shop workers who have gone above and beyond to serve their communities this festive period. You can share stories about your local shop workers and their incredible work by tagging @SussexPCC and using #KeepingChristmasKind on social media.
Nus Ghani said: “This year has been incredibly hard for our high streets. Our shop workers and shop keepers have played a vital role throughout the pandemic. They have kept our communities supplied and fed and they have gone above and beyond to offer delivery services and other support to the community. I had the privilege of meeting just a few across the constituency this summer, presenting them with the Wealden Hero Award and thanking them for putting their lives at risk for us. As we support local shops this festive season, let us not forget that and be kind.”
