Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, was awarded the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association UK (WISTA UK) Woman of the Year award, on the occasion of celebrating the organisation's Golden Jubilee in 2024.
WISTA is an international networking organisation whose mission is to attract and support women, at the management level, in the maritime, trading and logistics sectors.
Nusrat Ghani said: "I was delighted to attend WISTA UK’s Golden Jubilee celebrations last night at the International Maritime Organisation and I’m honoured to be presented with the Woman of the Year Award. Maritime is an integral part of the UK’s industrial identity, and it is crucial we continue encouraging diversity across the sector. As Maritime Minister, I oversaw the launch of the Women in Maritime Pledge and made it my priority to encourage women and girls from all backgrounds to consider careers in engineering, rail, road, aviation and maritime. So many fantastic women are already making a huge contribution to the industry, but we have a great deal of progress left to make and I will continue to champion the inclusion of women and girls in the wealth and breadth of career opportunities that our maritime sector offers."
